Nova London Exhibition

BRINGING A GLOBAL ACT OF REMEMBRANCE TO LONDON

The Nova Exhibition is a profoundly moving memorial to the lives lost and forever changed at the Nova Music Festival on 7 October 2023. Having already touched more than half a million visitors across cities including New York, Los Angeles, Toronto and Washington, D.C., the exhibition arrived in London for a multi-week public run at the Museum of Shakespeare in Shoreditch.

We were entrusted as production partner to bring this deeply sensitive experience to life in London, working hand in hand with the Nova team to honour the stories at the heart of the exhibition.

WHAT THEY NEEDED

The Nova Exhibition is unlike any conventional event. It is a place of remembrance, and the responsibility that came with it shaped every decision we made.

The venue itself presented the first challenge. We arrived to a space that was effectively a new build, still awaiting its formal fit-out, which meant we were responsible not only for the exhibition but for the enabling works that made it possible. From levelling floors and building walls to painting large areas of the space, we worked closely with the Nova team to ready the entire environment before a single exhibition element could go in.

The brief asked us to transform that raw space into more than a dozen distinct, emotionally resonant zones, each guiding visitors through a carefully considered journey of memory and reflection. This had to be delivered within a complex, constrained building, with accessibility carefully managed throughout, against a tight, short lead time that demanded we stay reactive to change at every turn, and to a standard that respected both the subject matter and the visitors who would come to pay their respects.

WHAT WE DELIVERED

We approached the project with one guiding principle: every choice had to serve the visitor's experience and protect the integrity of the remembrance.

Our team carefully received, sorted and prepared every element before it reached the venue. This allowed us to manage a demanding programme calmly and methodically, ensuring the right pieces arrived in the right place at the right time across the build.

With the space still taking shape around us, we completed the enabling works alongside the production build, levelling floors, building and finishing walls, painting large areas and installing the draping that softened and unified every zone. This joined-up approach meant the infrastructure, accessibility and creative finish all came together as one considered whole, rather than a series of separate trades.

The pace of the project demanded genuine agility. With a short lead time and a building that was evolving day by day, our team stayed reactive and fast-moving throughout, finding creative rigging solutions to bring fixtures, projection and scenic elements into place within the limits of the space, and adapting at speed as the environment developed around us.

The result was a single, immersive experience built from a remarkable depth of technology, brought together so it felt seamless to every visitor. More than seventy screens were deployed across the exhibition, alongside large-scale projection and projection mapping that wrapped the central space in moving imagery. A carefully considered lighting design, built from a broad palette of fixtures, shaped the mood of each zone, while audio was balanced sensitively throughout. We also brought new technology options to the table, advising the Nova team on the best ways to realise their vision and elevate the experience.

Crucially, our work did not end on opening night. We provided a dedicated on-site presence every day of the public run, bringing the exhibition online each morning, monitoring it throughout the day, and closing it down safely each evening. This daily care gave the Nova team complete confidence that the experience would be ready for every visitor, every day, from the press and VIP previews through to the final day of the exhibition.

The result was a faithful, dignified realisation of a globally significant exhibition, delivered with the technical excellence, partnership and sensitivity the subject demanded, allowing visitors to remember, reflect and bear witness without distraction.
